Dr. Brenda Williams has accepted a three-year appointment to the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee for the Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools. Dr. Williams and doctoral fellow La Tanya Gillis have published an article entitled “Collaborating for Transition and Career Planning for African American Adolescents with Disabilities” in the Counseling Interviewer . Dr. Williams is serving as convener of the Diversity Group of the William and Mary Teaching Project. The group is comprised of the following faculty from the School of Education : Dr. James Patton, Dr. Denise Johnson, Dr. Dot Finnegan, and Dr. Julia Bryan. |

Dr. Gareis Presents at the
Dr. Gareis recently gave two presentations at the National Evaluation Institute this summer, the first titled “Fighting the ‘Rising Tide' of the Deprofessionalization of Teaching: The Clinical Faculty Program at The College of William and Mary” and the second titled, “Can You Grow a Teacher Leader in the Greenhouse, or Do They Only Exist in the Wild?” Both presentations grew out of work that Dr. Gareis had done during the past four years as Associate Dean for Professional Services in the School of Education . This August, Dr. Gareis stepped out of that role in order to serve as a full-time faculty member in the EPPL program, teaching two of the core instructional leadership courses in the master's program and two of the core courses in the new Curriculum Leadership doctoral strand. |

Elected President
She has identified four major initiatives to be addressed during her presidency: new NCATE teacher education standards and the creation of a university network of scholars in the field, a renewed emphasis on state policy development and strengthening state and local program efforts, a focus on promising students of poverty, and an increased emphasis on multiple perspectives on issues in the field.
