Beyond the School:
Getting Community Members Involved
Hindman, J., Brown, W., & Rogers, C.
Effective schools must involve all members of the community and develop vital partnerships that are necessary for educating our youth. Hindman, Brown, and Rogers offer useful information for identifying barriers that could make local residents reluctant to become involved in schools. The authors state that citizen involvement has increased in the last two decades as schools have reached out to communities. Models that helped to increase parental involvement can also be used for the community. For further information on this topic see article in Principal Leadership (Middle Level Ed), 5(8), 36-39.
